We want to extend a big thank you to the families who purchased items from the School Store! Due to your support, the Montessori classroom was able to purchase some games, puzzles, and a pencil sharpener! For the month of February, we are learning about love and friendship, through Valentine's Day. We will have a Valentine exchange on February 14th. The children will decorate bags as "mailboxes" and they are invited to bring in Valentine cards to share with all of their friends. Please do not individually address the Valentines, as this would slow up the delivery process. For those who want to give Valentines, we have 30 children in our class. We already have lots of Valentine's Day crafts and artwork on the shelf to get the children thinking about appreciating their loved ones!
We also are learning about the U.S. Presidents for Presidents' Weekend. We have learned how many Presidents our country has had, who was the first, and who is the latest.. Our students have work to match portraits of each President, and we have definition cards that focus on five Presidents, who appear on American money. We are also beginning to learn about amphibians, in our ongoing lessons about animal classification. So far, we've classified mammals, birds, insects, and reptiles. On another note, the Montessori students have grown to become so independent! They have learned to take initiative in their own learning, to ask for help only after they have tried on their own, and to decide when to challenge themselves and when to relax. These are signs of a true Montessori learner.
