Happy December! And welcome to the joy and generosity that this season brings! Our first order of business this month is, of course, to have our Parent/Teacher Conferences. We hope you've all signed up so that we can show you all the good work your child has done, and what they will be learning in the months to come.
We have been practicing daily for our Christmas Concert. The school-wide concert will be held on Friday, December 16. All Montessori students will be singing. Please bring your child to theclassroom by 6:45 pm, and then youcan go take a seat in the gymnasium. We will enter the gym, as a whole class at 7 pm, when we we listen to the band's performance. Then the Mointessori class will perform. After our songs, the teachers will lead the children back to the Montessori classroom, where they may be picked up by their parents, who can either take them home or back to the gymnasium. Please note that pick-up guidelines at the concert will be the same as pick-up on regular school days. The person picking your child up should be on the approved list in our classroom. This week, we expanded on our squash unit by making a pumpkin pie from afresh pumpkin grown in our garden. All children helped make the pie in some way, and everyone got to taste a bit today. It was declared a success by most of our students! Next week, we will wrap up the squash unit by cutting open the remaining squash, roasting them, and tasting those. The inside of these squashes are a mystery to many of our students, and it is exciting to cut them open after several days exploring their outsides. For December, along with learning about Christmas, we will be starting a unit on birds, and learning about conifer plants. Two last bits of housekeeping-- First, drop-off times in the morning are between 7:40 and 7:50 am. A teacher is often at the door later because there is a line of cars before the 7:50 bell has rung, so of course we finish getting all the children. However, if the school's 7:50 bell has rung, and there are no cars, we will close the doors and return to the classroom. If you see the doors are closed, please park near the Parish Center entrance and bring your child in to the building. Your cooperation is appreciated. Secondly, it looks like we MAY be seeing a little snow in our future. The time would be appropriate for bringing in snow pants and/or boots, especially if you choose to keep them at school. We will be going outside for any day that is above 25 degrees (the temperature calculated with the wind chill), so please have outerwear appropriate to the weather conditions.
