The Montessori Children's House students said goodbye to March by wrapping up our unit on nutrition. Each day, we tasted something from a different food group. As always, our children learned about taking "one polite bite," Then we would survey the children to find out if they liked or didn't like a particular food. Some who took reluctant tastes found out that they enjoyed the new foods!
April will be a busy month for us. We will talk about colors and color mixing, which will tie in nicely with dying eggs for Easter. Speaking of eggs, we will continue the tradition of hatching eggs in the room, which is always an exciting time. Lastly, we will learn about and celebrate Earth Day, by learning about recycling paper. Ms. Rachel continues to practice daily Lenten devotions with the children. Each week, she has chosen a different cantor, who leads the other children in song. They are also talking about the stations of the cross, "following" Jesus on his journey to crucifixion, to prepare for the Easter celebration of his rising.

Hello! This week has been busy in the Montessori Children's House! We celebrated the first day of Spring on Wednesday by going outside, since the weather and our schedule permitted it. While it wasn't the balmy breezy day we think of when we think "spring," the fresh air felt good and the children stretched their muscles and used their voices gratefully. On Friday, we celebrated Pakistan's National Day, helped by our friend Humza and his family. His mother made delicious food for us to try, and also constructed a learning board about Pakistan. We saw the flag, compared Pakistani money (rupees) to ours, and learned that their national fruit is the delicious mango! What a special (and tasty) cultural geography lesson for our whole class! Thank you to Humza and family for sharing! We are ending our themes of fish and sea creatures and nutrition for this month. Next week, each day, we will taste something from the food groups about which we've been learning.
Thank you for all who've signed up for the Bubble Academy, starting March 26. There are only a few spots left. Please be aware that a $35 STREAM fee is required to assure your spot. Last week, our children learned about Lent being a time of reflection, not celebration. Since "alleluia" is a exclamation of joy, Ms. Rachel "buried the alleluias" in our outdoor garden. When Christ has risen again (Easter), we can bring out the Alleluias once more, and raise our voices in celebration!
Beginning Tuesday, March 26, Ms. Teresa is teaching an after school STREAM academy, called Bubble Academy, for PreK - 1st Grade students. It will run for six weeks, excluding the Easter break, to end on May 7. We will create, observe, measure, and conduct experiments with bubbles. Bubble Academy will be held after school. There is a $35 STREAM fee required to register. Look for the permission slip in this Thursday's BUZZ. As a side note, there is a slight change in our lunch routine. Montessori lunch buyers will now have the option to purchase a snack to go with their lunch. As listed on the lunch menu calendar, snacks are cookies, slushies, chips, and fruit rollups. Due to our lunch protocol, the snack must be bought at the time of lunch purchase (there is no going back to the cafeteria). The teachers will still make sure your child eats the majority of his or her lunch before having the snack. Please note on your calendars, Kindergarten graduation pictures are coming up - April 17! If your child's report card came home in an envelope, please sign the space for the 2nd trimester and return the envelope to school. Of course, if you have any questions about your child's report card, feel free to set a time to talk to Ms. Teresa and Ms. Krista. As always, thank you for partnering in your child's education! Hello again! The Montessori Children's House marked the beginning of Lent this past week. On Ash Wednesday, everyone went to church to receive our ashes. Then we learned, along with the Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grades, about the significance of the pretzel during Lent. Ms. Teresa read a story called "Brother Giovanni's Little Reward," which told us how a kind monk formed little treats in the shape of crossed arms to encourage students to learn their prayers. You might have seen a synopsis of this story sent home. We also used play-doh to form our own pretzels; it's not as easy as it seems! Then we enjoyed some delicious, freshly-baked soft pretzels. Our full day students participated in SoulCore, a prayerful program that implements stretching. A thank you to all who donated toys for Jared Boxes. These special boxes are meant to make hospitalizations of children a little less stressful.
This month, our class's learning themes are Nutrition, Sea Life, and Spring. Second trimester report cards will be available on Thursday, March 14. |
