Hello again. First, this very important announcement: The End of the Year Picnic has been rescheduled for June 14 due to a finals testing schedule change. This is necessary to avoid distracting older students while taking their final exams. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this causes. June 14 is also the date of our Kindergarten Graduation ceremony. The whole class will go to Mass at 9 am, to support their graduating classmates. Kindergarten graduates, please wear Sunday best. All other students, please wear uniforms. Then we will return to the classroom after Mass (usually around 10 am) to have our potluck picnic, which will go on until the noon dismissal. Weather permitting, we will be outside, so bring a blanket if you want. Please sign up for a dish to pass at this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c044caead2ca3f94-endofyear We continue to learn about gardening and the solar system this month. This last week, we explored how the sun "rises" and "sets" (we learned it doesn't really). Children took turns with a flashlight to be the "sun" and we used the globe to demonstrate the change from day to night as our Earth rotated. Our Spring Concert performance will be on Friday, May 31, at 7 pm. Maybe you've heard the songs we've been practicing! Please bring your children to the Montessori Room by 6:30 pm. After the performance, children will reunite with their parents to either go home or enjoy the rest of the performances.
We continue to observe our incubating eggs. Please say a prayer for their successful hatching! We are expecting them on Tuesday, May 28. Don't forget, Miss Krista and Miss Teresa are holding three weeks of Summer Adventures! All children ages 3-7 are welcome, not just Montessori students, so if you think a friend or relative might be interested, have them call the school office at 716-689-8424 to register! Enjoy the rest of your Memorial Day weekend!

Hello from the Montessori Children's House! I hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather we've been blessed with. This past week, we were able to go outside a bit more often, as it warmed and somewhat dried up! Please remember, we go outside whenever possible, so dress your child accordingly. We are continuing studying the solar system. One of the most popular lessons is a work that shows our place in the solar system. They are called the cosmic nesting boxes. As you might notice, this work is similar to the pink tower, in that they can be stacked sensorially, from largest to smallest. However, each box is hollow, so that they can nest to be put away. The largest shows The Milky Way Galaxy. The next shows our Solar System. The places depicted on each box get smaller and more detailed, down to the individual child. There are also printed labels for our readers to match to each box.
Our students continue to practice our Spring Concert songs with Mr. Magowen. Remember, everyone performs on May 31, at 7 pm. Also, our school's virtue project this month is collecting gently used t-shirt for citizens of Nicaragua. Each year, it becomes a contest about which class can contribute the most. We are very far behind! Please check your closets and send in any spare t-shirts you have! Our End of the Year Picnic is fast approaching. This is a potluck-type gathering; soon, there will be a sign-up sheet online to volunteer to bring a dish, or other essentials. Keep the morning of June 7 open! We hope to see everyone! As of now, we are expecting chicks to hatch on May 28. Say a prayer for every chick, please! In approximately 14 days, the Montessori Children's House is egg-specting baby chicks (I'm truly sorry for the puns)! Ms. Rachel put the fertilized eggs into the incubator on Monday, and we began our 21 day countdown. We have a piece of work that shows the stages of chick development, day by day, and the children love using it! After they hatch, we will keep them for a few days and return the chicks to Kelkenberg Farms.
Thank you to everyone who attended our Mother's Day Tea! Everyone had fun celebrating what makes our Moms great! We will continue our solar system and planting units for the month of May. Now, here are some important dates to put in your phone: May 31, 7 pm - Spring Concert - Please join us for an evening of music. All Montessori students will sing as a class. June 7, 9:30 am - Montessori End of the Year Picnic - Please join us to celebrate our class. We will have a sign-up for families to bring a dish to pass, we will have a gift for all families, and a special singing performance. Weather permitting, we will be outside (pray for sun!). June 14, 9:00 am - Kindergarten Graduation - All Montessori students will go to Mass to watch their Kindergarten-age friends graduate. Families of graduates, you are invited to join us for Mass and the short graduation ceremony. This will be a noon dismissal day, and also the last day of school for Montessori students. June 18 - School Picnic - Montessori Kindergarten students are invited back to school for a morning of fun and games! They will be assigned a Team Color and compete with their team for points. We will also have a picnic lunch. This day will have a noon dismissal. Please keep reading newsletters for more information on these upcoming events! And don't forget to check The Buzz for school-wide news! We Hello! The first thing I want to share with you is that the Montessori Children's House is celebrating Mother's Day on Friday, May 10. Our whole class will attend Mass at 8:50 am, and we invite parents to join us. Please have your child wear Sunday best. After Mass, we will all meet in Room 106-107 for our Mother's Day Tea. Our half-day students will have a regular dismissal, and full-day students leave at 12 noon. Moms may take their children home directly after the Tea, as long as you let Ms. Krista or Ms. Teresa know. This past week, we belatedly commemorated Earth Day by recycling our old, used paper into new paper. Every student hand-made their very own piece of paper from beginning to end! We also introduced our units on plants and gardening, as well as the solar system. Hopefully the weather will begin to cooperate so we can do some outside gardening! On Thursday, Mr. Andres, who the children call "Mr. Don" brought a special visitor to our classroom. We so enjoyed meeting Finley the puppy! Remember, Ms. Krista and Ms. Teresa are teaching 3 weeks of Summer Adventures! All children ages 3-7 are accepted. The dates and themes are:
June 24-28: Fun with Food July 15-19: Water Science August 5-9: All About Animals Each session costs $150. Payment is due with registration. Registration deadline is May 31. Please call the St. Mary School office or ask the Montessori teachers (Room 115) for a registration form. |
