Valentine's Day in the Montessori Children's House was a fun day of coloring, cookie decorating, card-making, and games with friends. Everyone got to take home a large bag of Valentines and treats! Thank you to all who shared the love! The 100th Day of School was celebrated the day we got back from our Winter Break. Our class made a Hundred Day Trail Mix. Several children got a chance to count out 100 of an ingredient to help prepare the snack. Then we added our 100th bead to our counting tray, and exchanged them all for a golden bead hundred square. We officially counted up to a new place value! Next month, our class will learn about nutrition, specifically the MyPlate configuration of food groups, and ocean life.

A big hello from Snowy St. Mary's Montessori! For a short month, February is packed with activity!
First, we will have a Valentine's Day celebration on February 14. The older Montessori students have Mass that day, so they must be in uniform. After Mass, we will deliver Valentines to our friends, and have fun heart- and love-themed centers and snacks. So please feel free to send in Valentines and/or goodies to share with friends. We do ask that the Valentines are signed with your child's name, but not addressed to anyone. We have 33 children total; sorting through addressed Valentines would be too time-consuming. The Montessori class has also been learning about Presidents and money for Presidents' Day. We have a board to match pictures of every American President, and nomenclature to learn more in-depth about the Presidents that adorn our coins and bills. According to our calculations since the first day of school, we are rapidly approaching 100 days! One of our daily jobs for the children has been adding a unit bead at the end of every day to our cup, Then they write the latest number on a grid. As we go along, we exchange ten unit beads at a time for ten bars. We've learned that counting by tens is faster! On Monday, February 24, after we come back from our Winter Break, we will celebrate our 100th day of school! We will prepare and share a special hundred-themed snack! Many students have asked me, "what happens after one hundred days?" Well, we're going to keep counting to the last day of school! |
