Hello again! The weather is getting drier and sunnier, if not necessarily much warmer! But we marked the first day of Spring by talking about the seasons, and weather, and I showed our students photos of crocuses growing up through the snow. We have continued learning about food groups this week. We are also wrapping up our unit on sea creatures. Miss Rachel has continued teaching about Lent and bringing students to our atrium. They have also discussed the significance of Easter.
Next month, Montessori will learn about (and do our best to incubate and hatch) chicken eggs. We will commemorate Earth Day by learning about our beautiful Earth (including land and water forms). We will discover ways we can protect our planet, and each child will make their own recycled paper. Thank you for those who read and signed their child's report cards, and who requested and attended conferences. We appreciate when parents partner with us to give their children the best education possible! In Music class, Mr. Delagrange is teaching us a beautiful song for our Spring Concert, which will be held on June 1, at 7 pm. More information will come regarding this event. Next week, our Spring Break begins on March 29. School resumes on April 9. Enjoy!

Greetings from Montessori! We had a shorter week, but we were busier than ever!
On Tuesday, March 14, schools nationwide staged "walkouts" for 17 minutes to protest gun violence. St. Mary's participated by saying the Rosary in church, as a community. Our Montessori class stayed in the classroom, so that Miss Krista could explain to the children the purpose of the rosary. Students who brought in their rosaries were able to share theirs with their friends, so we saw different styles and colors. We felt it was the most meaningful way to participate in this important event. Miss Rachel will also assist children in making their own rosaries in the atrium. We also explored the MyPlate model of food groups. Students are using food models and creating "meals" on the MyPlate dish. They can also make their own books diagramming and labeling the different food groups. We will soon be introducing a unit on rocks and minerals and land and water forms. This is another concrete way to explore the wonderful and beautiful world around us! Report cards went home yesterday. Please read it over, sign the last page, and return it to school as soon as possible. If you'd like to conference with us, please contact Miss Teresa or Miss Krista to schedule a time. We are usually available after dismissal. Alternatively, we might ask to conference with you. If we do, we'll send a message. Thank you all for your participation and cooperation! Dear Montessori Families, I am so pleased to be back to work. Thank you for your support, your gifts, and your genuine concern. This month, we are learning about nutrition. We will talk about, and sample, the food groups as defined by the My Plate model. We also use these actual plates for lunch from the cafeteria! Miss Rachel has been teaching religion to all Montessori students, using the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. We have a dedicated atrium as a reverent workspace for children to experience God"s love and the Catholic tradition. We will keep you apprised of her lessons in future newsletters. We will be asking for volunteers to help build the atrium to make it an ideal space for your children.
Finally, I would like to thank the McGuire and Cichocki families for donations that allowed us to buy new books for the classroom. These are what we are adding to our library: |
