Our Service Project, Care Cases of WNY, is ending. Please make donations of toys and personal items for foster children by Monday, April 30. Leave items at the Montessori room or outside the school office.
We are expecting our chicks to hatch on Monday, April 30. I'll post video of hatching, if we get to witness it. On Friday, May 11, we will join with the Kindergarten class to hold a Mother's Day Tea. We will go to Mass at 9 am, as a whole class, and then assemble in the cafeteria (about 10 am) for tea. Please remember that May 11 is a noon dismissal day for full-day students. On Friday, June 1, at 7 pm, Montessori Children's House will perform in the Spring Concert. As we know that this may make it a later night for your children, our students will return to the Montessori classroom directly after their performance, where you may pick them up. On Friday, June 8, after Mass (about 10 am), we will hold our End of the Year Celebration. This event is a potluck picnic, weather permitting! In the coming month, we will post a sign-up sheet. Please note that June 8 is a noon dismissal for full-day students. June 15 is Kindergarten Graduation from 9 - 10:30 am. It is also our last day of classes for the Montessori Children's House. On June 19th, Montessori Kindergartners are invited back to attend the school picnic, an all-morning event. This day is a noon dismissal.

Hello. Today is a bright, sunny day, so maybe spring is actually going to be here! The Montessori class celebrated Earth Day this week by recycling paper. Each child went through our paper recycling "factory", step by numbered step, to turn old paper into new. It was an exciting and hands-on science project that everyone looked forward to. Please remember, we have a service project this month. Care Cases of WNY provides much-needed personal items for foster children. Books, stuffed animals, crayons, and pajamas are just a few things that can be packed into a bag for a foster child who is moving to another home. Donations may be dropped off outside the Montessori classroom, or the table outside the office. We are on a chick watch! The eggs are in the incubator, keeping an appropriate temperature and humidity and regularly turning. Unfortunately, there was a weekend power outage of undetermined length, which may have disrupted their growth. We are praying that the chicks are still developing properly!
We will continue to learn about our Earth, and its land and water forms for the rest of April. Each family should have received an invitation to the Mother's Day Tea. Please return the RSVP card by May 1st. The tea begins after Mass, or around 10:00 am. Children will sit with their classes, but mothers and other guests are welcome to join us at Mass at 9:00 am. The Spring Concert will be held on June 1, at 7:00 pm. As the youngest group, the Montessori class will be the first to sing after the band performs. As has happened other years, we will lead the children back to the classroom after our performance, where you may pick them up. The children have worked very hard practicing with our music teacher, Mr. D. Kindergartners had graduation photos taken on April 18. I apologize for the lack of communication; it was a surprise to all of us! However, we made the best of it, and our Kindergartners smiled and posed in their caps and gowns. Hello! Even though Spring is slow to arrive (and stay), the Montessori class is celebrating new life and renewal during the month of April. Miss Rachel received fertilized eggs from Kelkenberg Farms, and 7 of them are now sitting in the incubator. The eggs themselves are very interesting. They range from quite small to very large, from white to tan to dark brown, to green! We can only guess what the chicks will be like! Of course, we know there are no guarantees in life, so we are preparing students with the possibility that some may not hatch. Next week, our class will learn about Earth Day, and we will recycle paper. Each child will make his or her own piece of paper recycled out of discarded paper from our recycling bin. Of course, all year, we have strived to recycle not just paper, but plastic and cardboard, as well as composting organic materials such as leftover snack and lunch. A flyer will be sent home about Care Cases of WNY, which is Montessori and Kindergarten's special service project for April. Care Cases help provide dignity and continuity to foster children, by giving them some personal belongings and a suitcase to carry them in. Please note that you do not have to donate for any particular age group, or donate a whole packed bag. Donations may be given outside the Montessori classroom, and also outside the school office.
If you haven't already received one, Mother's Day Tea invitations are coming soon! Please join us on May 11 for this special event. Our Spring Concert will be on Friday, June 1, beginning at 7 pm. I hope everyone had a peaceful and joyous Easter! It's been lovely seeing all of our students again after such a long break. Please remember, if you haven't already, to send back your child's rest mat as soon as possible.
Ms. Rachel will be going to Kelkenberg Farms to get eggs to put in our incubator. We will spend the rest of this month learning about eggs and the chicks that will hatch. It is an awe-inspiring experience, to observe the miracle of life. April is also the month in which we celebrate Earth Day. To commemorate the holiday, the Montessori class will focus on recycling paper. Each child will complete the steps to make their own piece of recycled paper. Hopefully, when they see how much work it takes to make paper, they won't be so quick to waste it! Our service project, which the Montessori and Kindergarten classes will spearhead, is for sheltering the homeless. Care Cases of WNY provides suitcases and tote bags filled with items for foster children, customized for boys and girls of various ages. Having their own possessions as they move from home to home gives them a sense of continuity and dignity. Bags can contain personal care items, stuffed animals, journals, workbooks, or storybooks. Items can be donated directly to the Montessori classroom for the rest of April. |
