Hello all! This is just a quick newsletter to summarize what will be going on in our virtual world, for both the near and longer-term future.
As you've heard by now, classes for the school year will continue to take place online. We will keep introducing some new concepts to students, and ask parents and caregivers to use their discretion as to whether the concept should simply be introduced (appropriate for most 3-year-olds) or reviewed and practiced until mastered. I do give general age guidelines for most lessons, but it is observation of what the student understands that is the most important piece of learning in the Montessori classroom. Please don't push your child beyond his or her endurance, and remember, repetition over the course of days or weeks (as long as further learning is observed) is a good strategy for learning. For the immediate future, this Friday, May 8, is a scheduled half day/ noon "dismissal" so that teachers can hold a staff meeting. There will be no Montessori Zoom Reunion, but emailed lessons will go out as usual. May will be a month of learning about gardening, and later in the month, the solar system. Please point out all the plant life to your children when you get to enjoy the outside! Further into the future, Ms. Krista and I would like to hold Summer Adventures again this year, and we are making general plans. However, we will not be able to solidify any schedule until May 30. As soon as we have a "go ahead" we will communicate our schedule and themes to parents. Thank you for all you are doing, dear parents, during these unprecedented times! Please know that Ms. Krista, Ms. Rachel, and I hold each student in our thoughts as dearly as if we saw them every day!
