When we came to school last Tuesday, 3 chicks had already hatched out of their eggs and were finding their footing in the incubator. Later that morning, one more hatched right before lunch (and before our full-day students eyes). That left 3 eggs to go; two had cracks and one showed no signs of hatching. Later that afternoon, one of the cracked eggs showed no movement behind the membrane. The other cracked egg showed a little egg tooth poking at the membrane, but not pushing through. As we all left to go home, we wondered what would happen. Well, the next morning, the little chick had made its way out. The whole class celebrated the smallest chick's strength and determination. But it was so small, and acted so weak, and the older chicks began to peck at the latecomer. The tiniest chick stayed behind in the incubator, to gather strength without being bothered. It seemed weak and lethargic for the whole day. We all weren't sure if the hatching took too much out of the chick. Late that afternoon, we tried to introduce the smallest chick to its hatch-mates. It perked up immediately, seemed more energetic, kept its eyes opened longer and walked more with its "flock." Thankfully, there was no sign of the older ones trying to hurt the latest chick to join them. From that day, all of them have grown and thrived! And what a difference a week makes! Father Bob came by to bless our chicks last Thursday after Mass. On another note, thank you for everyone who signed up to bring something for our June 14 picnic. If you haven't, there's still time! Please pray for good weather so that we can enjoy fresh air along with our picnic brunch!
And thank you for all who came to watch the Spring Concert. Our students enjoyed singing the Beatles' songs, and dancing along. Especially with the delightfully silly "Octopus' Garden." Don't forget to sign up for Summer Adventures if you haven't already! It's filling up! Just ask for a registration for in the Montessori room or at the office. Enjoy your week!
