Due to scheduling changes, we say goodbye to Miss Kelli as a regular part of our classroom, and hello to Miss Jill. Jill Fleming, a familiar and friendly face to our students, has joined the Montessori Children's House as of this past Monday. Don't worry, the children will still see Miss Kelli in the building on a regular basis!
We want to thank the Shotell family for their contribution of newly-hatched praying mantises to our classroom. They are living happily among the sprouts of our pumpkin plant, in its aquarium greenhouse. We also have praying mantis eggs from the Shotells that we are anxiously awaiting to hatch! We have finished our animal classification unit, and are now moving on to learning about the plant kingdom. We are going to spend this month studying the structure of plants, the parts of flowers, leaves, and seeds. Of course, it's no good unless we do some gardening of our own. Then we will discover we eat different parts of different plants. Stems, fruits, roots, leaves......even flowers! Wouldn't it be something to tell your child at dinner, "Eat your flowers"???? Wait until they find out that they probably already have! On another note, the end of the school year is rapidly approaching. The last full day for Montessori students will be on Friday, June 17th. Final report cards will be sent home earlier that week. Parents are welcome to bring back and accompany their children to the school picnic on June 21st. The Montessori class will also have an End of the Year Party on the morning of Thursday, June 16th. Mark your calendars and stay tuned for more details soon!
